Hayes Family Gift Supports New Hospital
When Christina and the late Michael Hayes were relocating from Williamsport, PA to Bergen County in the 1960s, a great hospital and access to quality healthcare were at the top of their “must-haves” list.
They found what they were looking for in Ridgewood and The Valley Hospital. Over many years, Valley took great care of Christina (“Tina”), Michael and their entire family’s healthcare needs. In fact, nine of their 11 grandchildren were born at Valley, including twins who were cared for in Valley’s NICU.
During those years, Tina lent her time and talents to Valley in many ways – serving as chairperson of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary’s annual Valley Ball, hosting fundraising events in her home, and even decorating the hospital for the holidays. Tina’s daughter, Michelle, also a long-time Auxiliary member, was active in supporting Valley in honor of the care her twins received in the NICU. Their fundraising efforts purchased a Giraffe Incubator Carestation, a cutting-edge neonatal environment for children born prematurely, as well as other critical equipment.
Recently, the Hayes Family provided a generous leadership gift to the new hospital on the Paramus campus. “For sixty years, The Valley Hospital has nurtured the entire Hayes family,” said Tina. “From routine checkups to emergency services, Valley’s team of doctors, nurses, and support staff have healed and comforted my family in their most crucial times of need. I’m honored to give back to this institution that has given so much to me.”
In recognition of the Hayes Family’s generosity, the Paramus hospital’s Cardiac Critical Care Unit will be named in honor of Michael and Christina Hayes and the high level of care Michael received prior to his passing.
Recently, Tina toured the new, state-of-the-art hospital in Paramus. “I was impressed by the spaciousness and modernity of the new facilities,” said Tina. “With its cutting-edge technologies and focus on patient comfort, this new hospital will go a long way in caring for local families while drawing in people from surrounding communities, just like The Valley Hospital welcomed me and Mike so many years ago.”
